On the 29th of August 1947,with Dr. B.R Ambedkar assuming the role of chairman, a seven-member drafting committee was assigned to create a permanent constitution,.The forerunner to the final constitution prepared by this committee was submitted to the Constituent Assembly on the 4th of November 1948.After an extended period of improvisations and lengthy discourse, the assembly adopted the constitution on the 26th of November 1949.With Dr.Rajendra Prasad as the first president of India,The more crucial portions of the constitution came into play on the 26th of January 1950. On that very day, the Assembly turned into the Parliament of India under the transitional provisions and the statements of the new constitution.The date was chosen to declare complete independence (Poorna Swaraj) on this day in 1930.

From true determination, grit and the spirit and the untiring efforts of our forefathers,we received independence, but on this revered day, we truly gained our freedom. The rules that we drew of our own volition are what lead us today, and it is safe to say we are all grateful for this privilege.The constitution has changed over the years, but its core doctrines remain unaltered and they have served us with exceptional efficiency, even after 76 years.76 years of freedom and every year we are more grateful than the last one.
